When I decorated for spring this year with a fresh blue and green color palette, I knew I wasn’t going to want to undo it all when the warm weather rolled around. Those nature-inspired hues just feel right for this time of year, whether the trees are budding or the temps are rising.
So this year’s summer home tour isn’t a full makeover—it’s a simple, seasonal refresh using what I already loved about my spring decor, with just a few easy updates to give my home that lighter, more relaxed, summery feel.
Come on in for the summer edition of my tour, and I’ll show you how a handful of small changes easily carried my home decor from one season to the next—and how blue and green continues to work all the way through the summer season.

Summer Home Tour with Blue and Green.
If you’ve seen my spring home tour How to Use Blue and Green for a Perfect Spring Decor Refresh, then today’s summer look will feel familiar—but with a more relaxed, coastal vibe.
The blue and green scheme that worked so beautifully in spring is just as at home in the warmer months, especially when layered with some summer flowers, natural textures, and a few pops of color.
Instead of starting from scratch, I leaned into what was already working. I left what I already loved, removed any spring flowers and bunnies, and just layered in a little “essence” of summer.
The Entryway: A Warm Summer Welcome.
The console table right inside the front door creates my entryway. This space is small but highly visible, so it’s always a great place to set the tone for the season by changing out the accessories.

I left the pot of blue, green, and white hydrangeas, but swapped out the bunnies for a coral inspired bowl and a brass crane. I also popped a blue and green abstract watercolor coastal scene print into the frame for the summer season.

The Family Room: Summer Ease in Blue and Green.
These easy summer decor ideas proved I didn’t need to overhaul the whole family room to make it feel like a new season.

In here, the changes are minimal—but the new accessories say summer instead of spring.

The throw pillows stayed the same, but I swapped out the cozy faux fur throw for a lighter one in soft green.

I replaced the olive tree with this faux Areca palm for a coastal touch in the corner.

And I switched spring accessories on the coffee table for a few summer decor items.

A gold crab rests on a coffee table book with a lovely outdoor scene, and I switched the spring candle for a candle with a tropical scent and a cute wicker holder.

For another coastal touch that brings in the blue, I filled the marble-look ruffle bowl with decoupaged oyster shells that I made as an easy DIY project with some pretty blue and white patterned napkins.
The Kitchen: A Touch of Summer on the Island.

Just a few minimal natural elements like greenery and blooms shifted the whole mood of the kitchen into summer.

The kitchen table stayed just as it was for spring with this simple centerpiece—blue and white vases, a bit of greenery, and a natural woven tray.
But to give the space a seasonal refresh, I changed out a couple of accessories on the kitchen island. It’s a simple update, but it instantly brought life and a summery feel to the focal point of the kitchen.

I styled another tray with a mix of summer plants and flowers and in this vignette, I replaced the spring branches for some summery fern and bright green moss in a white cane-pattern planter.

A blue hydrangea ties into the entryway arrangement. I added water to the vase for this realistic faux bloom—this little trick is a great way for helping fake pass for fresh flowers.

The plants are paired with a summer candle…

on the cutest scalloped light-colored wicker tray, perfect for the season.

And the final blue and white touch is a little fresh mint growing in a chinoiserie pot that I can easily snip to add to dishes and drinks this summer!🌿
The Dining Room: One Simple Change for a Summery Feel.

The dining room kept most of its spring setup, which already felt light and fresh.

Bamboo pattern pillows bring some blue and white to the chairs flanking the buffet.

And the orchids and ferns still sit on top of the buffet. But I did make one small change in this room that brought in a new seasonal energy—I swapped the spring flowering branches in the urn in the corner for a tall tropical plant.
More Easy Summer Decor Ideas to Try.
Want to also freshen up your home for the summer months without a full redecorating? Here are some of the best ways I’ve used here to bring in the colors of the season and create a relaxed atmosphere:
- Swap out dark or heavy fabrics for lightweight fabrics and airy fabrics.
- Add natural textures like jute, rattan, or seagrass through rugs, trays, and baskets.
- Use indoor plants or greenery to bring in life and movement.
- Try floral prints on pillows or art for a pop of color to rooms with neutral tones.
- Place a small bowl of lemons or limes for a summery touch on the coffee table or kitchen counter.
- Add a new throw pillow or two in summer colors or lighter colors to refresh a sofa or chair.
- Switch a few summer decor decorations like candles, vases, or even a coastal art print to change the vibe.

I hope this tour gave you a few summer ideas to try in your own home, and showed how the smallest of seasonal changes can bring a big impact.
Transitioning into the summer season doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch. With a few easy updates, you can build on what you already love and create a seasonal refresh that celebrates the best of this time of year.
Think lighter textures. A few summery touches. And a little bit of restraint to make your home feel relaxed and laid back, just like summer. Save the overdecorating for fall and the holidays—we all need that break!

Kate, I really like all your blue and green that you have added to your “summer” home. I’m a blue and white gal but have enjoyed adding pops of green for the summer. Love the tall plant you have added. It looks great! Also, such a cute picture of your precious little Bijoux! I think Bijoux is missing the cozy, furry blanket! Have a great week! Hope you have started your packing, Kate! I know you will absolutely love your trip and it will be so nice for you to get away with your besties! How fun this will be!
Kate, I hope you are getting my comments OK because, when I go back and look, my comments are not showing!
I always appreciate your comments so much! They won’t show up right when you comment because I have to approve them and sometimes it takes me a little while to get to them. This keeps weirdo and spam comments from showing up.😂
