Spring is officially here! More hours of daylight, the birds are singing on repeat, and the stores are practically begging us to buy pastel everything. Which means it’s time to swap out the winter cozy for fresh decor.
My go-to colors this spring for an instant seasonal refresh are blue and green—nature’s dynamic duo. Maybe not exactly the first spring colors or soft pastels that you’d think of for the season. But this color combo allows me to not only decorate with what I have, it’s a great way for me to carry these rooms all the way through summer without changing a whole lot.
Come on in for the tour and I’ll show you how a few simple swaps freshened up my home faster than you can say “bring on the spring!”
Family Room Spring Decor: Soft and Serene Refresh.
The family room is where the magic (or more honestly, the lounging) happens. The quickest way to shake off winter’s chill? To infuse this neutral room with different shades of colorful spring green and blue.

I was able to use all of my blue and white chinoiserie decor, like the blue and white bowl on the chest, a vase of green branches on the fireplace mantel, and blue and white ginger jars in the entertainment center. The only new purchases in all of my spring decorating were the fresh light blue and green pillow covers in the chairs. (One of my favorite things about this refresh is it didn’t cost much money!)

I swapped out the neutral, winter-cozy, heavily textured throw pillows on the sofa with a pair of rich velvet pillows in darker shades of blue, and one with a crisp blue and white print. Then added in the green with a couple of lattice pattern pillows.

For now I’ve left Bijoux’s favorite luxe faux fur blanket, but that may have to change to a lightweight throw as the weather warms up…

A blue and white pot of green snowball flowers with white hydrangeas bring the color green and the spring to the family room coffee table:

I can’t decorate for spring without a few bunnies—this gold cutie is perched on a stack of green and blue coffee table books.

Spring Living Room Decorating Tips with Blue and Green: Layer in a mix of patterns like floral, lattice, and stripes with pillows and throws to create a cozy yet fresh spring look. Add natural textures like woven trays, rattan accents, or linen fabrics to balance out the cool tones of a blue and green color scheme.
Kitchen Spring Decor Ideas: Subtle Touches of Spring.
The island is the heart of my downsized villa’s kitchen, so a touch of spring here instantly makes the whole room feel fresher and brighter.

A floral arrangement with faux stems of spring flowering branches and a fresh-scented candle bring that “spring clean” feeling that I love to the kitchen (even when there are dirty dishes piled in the sink).

The other side of the island holds a rabbit tray full of blue and white chinoiserie eggs, resting on top of a grapevine wreath and white pedestal. (I’ll be sharing this easy decoupage DIY next week.)

The back counter gets a nod to spring with this plump bunny…

And a touch of blue and white with the plates underneath:

I kept the kitchen dining table centerpiece simple with a rattan tray, chinoiserie jar, and a sprig of greenery.

Spring Kitchen Decorating Tips with Blue and Green: Swap out dish towels for ones with green or blue accents. Display dishes like green cabbage stoneware or Blue Willow china on open shelving. Use a decorative tray on the counter with a green plant, a scented candle, and a blue and white ceramic piece to tie everything together.
Spring Dining Room Decor Ideas: Fresh and Simple.
My dining room right now is simple and basic for everyday with just a few touches of green, blue, and white to tie it into the other areas. The large DIY moss bowl brings in the rich green as the dining room table centerpiece, and a bowl of faux orchids and ferns freshens up the sideboard.

I brought a little blue and white into the dining room with these pretty bamboo print blue pillows:

And the only overtly spring detail in the dining room is an assortment of white flowering branches in an urn in the corner:

Spring Dining Room Decorating Tips with Blue and Green: Use a woven or linen table runner in soft blue or green to bring spring texture and color to the dining table. Add blue or green dishes and glassware, rattan or linen placemats, and blue or green napkins with chinoiserie napkin rings to make a pretty tablescape bursting with a blue and green color palette.
Spring Entryway Decor Ideas: Welcome to the New Season.
Since the entryway is basically a home’s handshake, a wanted it to have the same bright and fresh feel as the other rooms as you come in. I found this narrow console table after I moved in to create a “foyer moment” in the walkway from the front door (and a decorating opportunity).
I found the perfect-sized shallow console on FBMP but it wasn’t so perfect-looking. You can see its makeover in the post “How To Make Cheap Furniture Look Expensive: FBMP Makeover“.
A pot of blue, green, and white hydrangeas add a bright and cheery welcome to this space:

Next to it a pair of gold rabbits with blue and white ribbons peek over the edge of a green glass candle.

The entryway table is my favorite spot to display seasonal pictures, so I switched out my kid’s winter photos to ones from (way) past spring seasons.

Spring Entryway Decorating Tips with Blue and Green: Swap out the entryway rug for a fresh, lighter option with soft blue or green hues. Hang a spring wreath on the inside of the front door, or place a small bench with a color-theme throw pillow to make the foyer feel more inviting.

Kate, love the tour. It gave me so many ideas for my own family room and kitchen. I have only one question. What color is the paint that you have in your family room and kitchen?
Thank you Nancy! I don’t know the exact paint color because the house was already painted this warm white when I bought it. Sorry I can’t help!
