Spring always sneaks up on me a little.
One day it seems like the air is cold, the sky is gray, and the trees are bare. The next the sunlight is brighter, the birds are louder, and everything outside is suddenly turning green again. And I start wanting the inside of my house to catch up and shake off winter too.
After downsizing, I’ll admit I wondered if that would take some of the fun out of seasonal decorating. There just aren’t as many surfaces to work with.
But it turns out, it’s actually the opposite.
I don’t need to redecorate entire rooms to make my home feel like spring. Most of the time, a few small touches in the right places do the trick.

This year I added a handful of simple spring updates to the spots I see the most every day—the sofa, the coffee table, the kitchen island, the kitchen table, and the entry console. Nothing elaborate. Just a few spring flowers, a couple pillow swaps, and the same blue-and-white color scheme I’ve been using for months with a little spring green mixed in.
If you’re not quite sure where to start with spring decor, come on in and I’ll show you the few places around my home where those small seasonal swaps go a long way!
Where Should You Add Spring Decor in Your Home?
It’s easy to think more is better when it comes to seasonal decorating, but the biggest impact usually comes from the areas you notice most throughout the day. When those feel fresh, the whole space starts to feel like spring.
Start With the Sofa.
This is usually the first place I start because it’s so quick and changes the seasonal feel of the whole room almost immediately.
Swap Out a Few Pillows and Throws.

What I’ve noticed is that even a couple of small changes here can shift things away from winter. I don’t do a full overhaul—I just swap in a few lighter texture pillows and trade out heavier throws for something more seasonal.
On the sofa, that meant bringing out a lighter throw, and blue and white pillows paired with a couple of green and white ones. It feels fresh without being overly “springy.”

I also carried that over to the chair with a blue and white pillow and a green and white throw, which helps tie everything together without having to match exactly.
Because the sofa and surrounding seating are such big visual anchors in the room, when they feel lighter, everything around them starts to follow.
And the best part is, this is one of those changes that doesn’t have to be undone in a few weeks. These same pieces can carry right into summer without needing to be switched out again.
Refresh the Coffee Table for Spring.
This is one of those spots that can make the whole room feel a little more like the season without much effort.

Add One Simple Arrangement.
I kept this really simple with a blue and white floral ginger jar filled with faux green hydrangeas. I like adding some kind of florals or greenery to the coffee table—it brings a little life to the area without needing much else.

Layer in a Small Seasonal Detail.
Instead of doing anything over the top, I added two small gold bunny figurines with blue and white ribbon scarves. They’re just enough to bring in a little bit of spring without taking over the table or making it feel crowded—especially in a smaller, open space.
Don’t Forget the Mantel.

I didn’t do much spring-wise to the mantel this year. I just tucked a plump bunny statue next to the blue and white vase of greenery that’s already there, and that was enough to give it a tiny nod to spring.
Add a Small Touch to the Kitchen Island.
The kitchen is where I spend a lot of time, so even a small change here makes the whole house feel different.

Keep It Simple and Usable.
I kept the island really simple with a small grouping that still leaves plenty of room to use the space.
I used a scalloped wicker tray to corral everything, then added a blue and white ginger jar with fresh green faux florals, a moss bunny with a green satin ribbon, and a candle.
It’s just enough to feel like spring without taking over the whole island.

Add a Meaningful Seasonal Detail.
On the back counter, I tucked a bunny under a cloche that I’ve had for years. It was actually on my child’s first birthday cake, so it’s one of those pieces that brings back happy memories when I bring it out each spring.

Style the Kitchen Table.
The kitchen table is one of those spots that can easily get overlooked unless you’re setting it for a meal, but it’s prime decorating real estate.

Add a Simple Centerpiece.
I kept this simple with a wicker tray lined with blue and white napkins, holding a large vase of faux cherry blossoms and a blue and white ginger jar. The pale pink cherry blossoms add a soft, spring feel, and the blue and white ties back to everything else going on in the kitchen and living room.

It’s enough to make the table feel polished and seasonal without having it fully set all the time.

Layer in Everyday Pieces.
Instead of bringing in anything new, I placed a stack of sweet bunny plates I’ve had for years on the tray and used blue, green, and white placemats around the table. This little decor trick makes the table feel ready to use without looking like it’s just there for decoration.
Welcome Spring at the Entry Console.
If there’s one place where a little effort goes a long way, it’s the entry.
I kept this area light and layered with a few pieces I already had so it feels like spring as soon as you walk in.

A vase of white flowering branches adds height and sets the tone right away.

Next to it, I used a coral bowl that I turned into a basket with a grapevine handle— I just soaked the grapevine in water until it was bendy enough. I filled it with green moss and my DIY chinoiserie eggs, which bring in a little blue and white here.

On the other side, I set out a print of a spring flowering tree and a small blue and white planter with faux white flowers to fill things in.

Look for Small Surfaces That Can Hold Spring Decor.
Once I finish the main areas, I usually notice a few smaller spots that could use a little something. This side table was one of them.

I added simple vase of realistic faux white tulips to the wicker tray next to a small stack of magazines. It didn’t take much, but it was enough to bring spring cheer to that little corner.
What I’ve found is that these smaller surfaces don’t need much. In fact, they usually look better when you keep them simple and let one or two things do the work. You’ll start to notice these kinds of spots everywhere—side tables, shelves, even a small corner of the kitchen counter.
