Silver and gold decorations. They’re glamorous, They’re classic—and classy. (They always make me sing the snowman song from Rudolph in my head.)
This holiday season I made a departure in the dining room from the typical traditional colors. It’s my turn to host my girlfriends for our annual Christmas party and I wanted to make our dinner sparkle on this special night.
I went big in my smaller dining room this year by adding a Christmas tree in the corner decked out with silver and gold decorations, plus loads of glitter, glimmer, and glamour throughout the room.

Why I Love This Silver and Gold Color Scheme.
- First of all, decorating a silver and gold tree was easy using what I already had. I pulled out not only a mixture of gold and silver decorations, but I also added other metallic shades from my stash like champagne and platinum. Mixed metals work wonderfully together on a glam Christmas tree—no need to limit to one or two!
SH&H Tip: Storing your ornaments by color makes it easy to come up with different color combinations each year.
- Although you can’t ignore the elegant shine of a silver and gold tree, it has a neutral tree feel which can be a refreshing change from all of the bright and bold decorations this time of year.
- This Christmas theme really glows in the tree lights in the evenings—it’s magical! The mixed metals and glittering decor really amp up the shine.

The Perfect Tree for a Silver and Gold Color Scheme.
Let’s start with the tree itself. I used a flocked tree, which was the perfect base for the silver and gold metallic holiday decor, and a great way to add depth and softness while keeping everything light. The year I did a white and gold Christmas tree I used my green tree, and while it was soft and lovely it didn’t have the same glamorous look as a flocked tree would have had.

And the other tree requirement for a silver and gold tree look (just in case I need to state what’s probably the obvious) is white lights.
The Silver and Gold Christmas Tree Topper.
Rather than making or purchasing a new tree topper for this theme, I chose to use a “volcano” style tree topper with these glittery picks I already had from Hobby Lobby. A gold or silver star topper would also be perfect for this theme.

Elegant Metallic Ribbon.
Before adding the ornaments, I always fill the tree with ribbon. It not only adds movement and visual interest, but brings in a lot of the color scheme. For this silver and gold tree, I chose different shades of gold ribbon that I already had—one is platinum and the other is champagne gold. And to tie the dining room’s colors into the living room and kitchen, I also incorporated a bit of the same olive green ribbon I used in those rooms.

Metallic Ornaments and Tree Decor for a Glam Look.
Next came the fun part—adding the Christmas ornaments. I mixed silver ornaments, gold ornaments, and even a few white ornaments to bring lightness and variation to all the metallic tones.

I started with the largest ornaments along with a couple of statement pieces. Adding large items to the tree with different shapes and textures is always a good idea to keep things interesting and to create fullness. I poked in a few wooden snowflakes (similar), letting them stick out beyond the tree branches.

And can we talk about these large white glittery magnolias? They’re probably my favorite part of the whole tree. I found these beauties on my trip to the Christmas megastore, Guess and Company. (You can see a few of their beautiful trees in the post “Check Out the Top Christmas Decor Trends for 2024.”)

Next, I filled in with the smaller ornaments. I used pretty much every gold, silver, and white ornament in my storage bins. Then I accented all the silver and gold with just a few soft green ornaments to add interest and to tie in the green ribbon.
As I take in the finished tree, I think this gold and silver theme would also look amazing with small touches of muted red or burgundy in place of the green—another color scheme for another season!
Silver and Gold Christmas Decorating Ideas for the Rest of the Room.

Silver and Gold Sideboard Christmas Decor.
To tie the look together across the dining room, I dressed up the sideboard with matching silver and gold sparkle. I hung a plain green wreath on the mirror, wove in some silver and champagne gold leaves and berries, and hung it up with leftover green and gold ribbon.

For more sparkle, I added mercury glass finials to the sideboard along with a trio of antique gold angels and a pair of silver and gold cone trees.
The Silver and Gold Christmas Dining Table Centerpiece.

I loaded the center of the dining table with silver, gold, and sparkling decor.

To keep things functional, I avoided tall items in the center so guests could see across the table—I may swap these large martini vases out for something even shorter later in the month before my dinner.

I made this silver and gold Christmas centerpiece with:
- A mirror as a table runner
- Silver and gold ornaments in a variety of shapes, sizes, and finishes
- Three martini glass vases trimmed with rhinestone ribbon
- Mercury glass votive holders
- Extra green and gold ribbon from the tree
- Small pieces of the glittery picks from the tree
- Large gold finial ornaments tied with olive green velvet ribbon

- Silver glitter pine cone picks
- Strands of faux pearls
- Glittery white snowflakes
- Faux Cedar greenery picks
- Silver and gold ball garland
- Diamond vase filler in the martini glasses and sprinkled throught the table

There’s just something magical about silver and gold at Christmas, and this year’s dining room decor is all about embracing that shimmer and shine, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out and can’t wait to spend part of our special girls Christmas party eating in here.
