How to Clean Your House in 10 Minutes a Day
Inside: A realistic 10 minute daily cleaning routine that helps keep your house tidy, manageable, and easier to maintain—even when you’re busy and short on time.
Some people can function just fine in a little chaos—I am not one of those people. When my home feels out of control, my mind does too. There’s just something about a tidy space that helps me feel more clear-headed, focused, and on top of life. But between work, errands, and appointments, I don’t want to spend hours of my free time cleaning my house each week.

That’s why a 10-minute routine has become part of my daily ritual. It’s amazing how a few minutes of intention can completely change the way my home feels—and how I feel in it. The real secret to having a clean house isn’t doing everything at once. It’s staying on top of the little things every day! This daily clean doesn’t replace weekly deep cleaning, but it’s a game-changer. It’s fast, simple, and fits into even the busiest of days.
Why a 10 Minute Daily Cleaning Routine Works.
When you give a little bit of attention to high-traffic areas on a daily basis, you can stay ahead of the mess. Doing the same few quick tasks every day saves so much time when it comes to the weekly jobs… like cleaning showers and toilets, mopping, dusting, emptying trash cans, changing sheets, etc. Because you’re not spending half the time just cleaning up to get to the real cleaning! These little daily habits keep your home from falling behind, so you’re never starting from zero and spending your whole Saturday afternoon slaving away like Cinderella😩. It also helps prevent cleaning burnout because your home never reaches the overwhelming “disaster zone” stage.

I’ve started mentally reframing those ten minutes as an oasis in the day—a calming mindless break from work, or a way to wind down at the end. This habit not only makes everything look better, but makes a huge difference in making me feel better too.
What Is Included in a 10 Minute Daily Cleaning Routine?
This quick daily cleaning schedule focuses on the areas that make the biggest visual impact in your home:
- Kitchen counters and dishes
- Living room clutter
- Bathroom touch-ups
- Bedroom resets
- Entryway cleanup
- Quick floor cleaning and spot vacuuming
The goal isn’t deep cleaning your entire house every day. It’s maintaining a tidy home with small daily habits that keep messes manageable.
How to Clean Your House in Just 10 Minutes a Day.
Although 10 minutes is a goal we can all carve out of our day, I do have some disclaimers:
1) You have to first start with a clean and picked up space in order to maintain with this routine. And 2) This 10-minute timeframe assumes you won’t have to do every single thing in each of these rooms every single time, like spot cleaning the floor, or putting away tons of things (because you’ve kept up with it daily😊).
The Best Daily Cleaning Tasks for Busy People.
This routine focuses on the high-traffic areas and quick cleaning tasks that make the biggest visual impact in your home. Remember you’re speed cleaning to keep you moving quickly (it’s amazing how fast you can move when you set a goal!)
If I’ve stayed on top of it, most days I can get through it in about 10 minutes if I stay on task, without getting distracted or sidetracked. That said, some days it may take a little longer, maybe closer to 20 minutes. Especially if things have built up or there’s more to pick up. That’s completely normal. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s about keeping your home manageable with a quick reset each day so it never gets too out of hand. Some days you may only have time to tidy the kitchen and living room. Other days you may tackle every room on the list. A realistic cleaning schedule should work with your real life—not create more stress.
1. The Kitchen
This space sees the most action, plus it’s where we make and eat our food, so a clean kitchen is crucial for your home to seem clean.

- Wash any dirty dishes in the kitchen sink or load in the dishwasher
- Unload the dishwasher and put away clean dishes if needed
- Do a quick wipe of kitchen counters
- Sweep or do a quick vacuum for visible crumbs and dirt on the kitchen floor
- Spot-clean fridge handles, microwave door, or other kitchen appliances if looking grimy
- Declutter—put away anything out of place and throw away trash
2. The Living Room or Family Room
Tidy up the heart of your home with a quick pick up and put away.

- Fluff and straighten throw pillows, couch cushions, and blankets
- Straighten the coffee table
- Declutter—put away anything out of place and throw away trash
- Spot vacuum visible dirt or pet hair if necessary
3. The Entryway or Drop Zones
Areas where you enter the home become dump zones that can get out of control quickly if you don’t stay on top of them.

- Toss or sort through paper clutter like mail, catalogs, and flyers
- Sweep or vacuum up tracked-in dirt
- Hang jackets and bags, put away shoes if needed
- Declutter—put away anything out of place and throw away trash
4. The Bathroom
Just a quick touch-up keeps the bathroom looking fresh and feeling clean.

- Give the bathroom sink, counters, and faucet a quick wipe down
- Put away products or clear clutter off the counter
- Spot-clean the mirror if needed
- Hang up any towels or put any clothes on the floor in the hamper
- Sweep or vacuum any visible hair or dirt on the floor
5. The Bedroom
A quick tidy makes your personal space feel calm and ready for rest at the end of the day.

- Make the bed
- Pick up dirty clothes and put away clean ones
- Declutter—put away anything out of place and throw away trash
- Spot vacuum any visible dirt
Tips to Make Your Daily Cleaning Routine Stick.

- Keep your cleaning tools handy. A caddy with your go-to supplies or keeping what you need to do touchups tucked away nearby or in the room saves time.
- Use a timer. Racing the clock makes it feel more doable—maybe even kind of fun (if you’re the competitive kind).
- Stack it with another habit. Pair it with something at a specific time every day to make it part of your daily routine, like making coffee or putting on pajamas.
- Share the load. Family members can help by tackling one quick task each.
- Give special attention to the thing that bugs you most—whether it’s the kitchen sink or a cluttered entryway.

Thanks, Kate, for your list. I usually spend a few minutes tidying up things before I go to bed. I love to have a tidy home. I love little Bijoux’s bed — so cute — but where was precious little Bijoux? We sure miss our little Maltese. She (Princess) was our third little Maltese that went to Doggie Heaven and we just couldn’t get another one at our stage of life now. We sold our home at the lake and moved into a new condo that has a “no pet” policy.
Bijoux is still around so don’t worry! I don’t remember why her bed wasn’t in that post. I’m sorry your condo has that policy…but at least it helps you stick to the decision of not getting another dog.
Your home is so peaceful and beautiful.
Awww thank you Rory.💗
Great idea! Cleaning is my nemesis, but I love your list. Maybe I can keep things under control this way. Thank you!!
I’m glad I could help Marilyn…thank you for your nice comment!!
Where did you purchase your dog bed?
I got that at Homegoods. They often have really cute ones!
