The promise of spring around the corner keeps me going through the frigid, gray days of February. And a fresh, new beautiful spring wreath on the porch serves as a cheery daily reminder of the warmer weather ahead.😎
This easy DIY spring wreath filled with happy purple, yellow, and white flowers instantly brightened up the front door to my home. It was so fast because it’s glueless, with the picks being secured by the branches of the grapevine. And also budget-friendly because I can remove everything later and use the wreath again for the next season.
Let’s look at how I made it, and I’ll also share a few tips for creating your own wreath this way!
Materials for a Quick Spring Wreath.
You don’t need the exact stems that I used—this simple DIY wreath method is easy to customize to fit your personal style, and would look lovely with soft pastels, vibrant colors, all one color, or even with minimalist greenery.

Most of the ferns and spring flowers came from Hobby Lobby, and some I had in my stash of faux florals. This supply list will give you a guideline of how I used different colors, shapes, and textures to help you choose your stems. The number of picks you’ll need depends on the size of the wreath, so I don’t list how many (and sorry, I don’t know the proper name for some of these flowers but the look is what’s important). For reference, I used a 24-inch grapevine wreath.
- Grapevine wreath
- 2 types of Fern Picks with different textures
- White Snowball Faux Flowers
- Faux Lavender Picks
- 2 other types of Purple Flower Picks with different textures
- Yellow Mini Floral Spray Picks
- Long, trailing Green Floral Picks
- Wire Cutters
How to Make an Easy DIY Spring Wreath.
1. The first thing I did before adding the florals was to cover the grapevine wreath form with the fern greenery. I inserted each stem into the grapevine far enough so that it was secured by at least a couple of branches, and placed them all facing the same direction clockwise around the wreath. Four large airy fern picks pretty much covered the whole circle of this large wreath,
Next, I cut apart a greenery pick that looks similar to an asparagus fern and filled in around the wreath (the Hobby Lobby description calls it a dill bush).

SH&H Tip: If you’d like to make a more permanent wreath, use a hot glue gun to add a bit of glue on the end of each stem right before inserting it. Hold it in place until the glue is cooled.
2. Next, I added the large flowers, which in this case were the white snowball flowers—I used ten blooms on this 24″ wreath.
3. I cut pieces of a faux lavender bush with wire cutters and stuck them in around the wreath, all going in the same direction, and sticking out from the wreath both inside and out.

4. I followed with more bushy flowers that really brought the purple to the wreath. Then I cut up a curvy branch with tiny delicate purple blooms to stick out from the wreath to bring more dimension and a different texture.

5. I added even more area to the wreath with some long trailing green blooms sticking out around the outside.
6. I finished with some cheery yellow flowers to complement the purple and white, again having them all flow in the same direction.

7. Once I stood the wreath up vertically, I did some final adjustments and made sure everything felt secure. This easy way of making a wreath using the grapevine to hold everything instead of glue allows me to reposition anything I don’t like.
It’s amazing how different and so much larger the finished wreath looks than the original plain grapevine wreath!

Tips for this Simple Spring Wreath DIY Method.
- Point all of the florals in the same direction and have some stick out beyond the wreath footprint. This brings beautiful movement, visual interest, and an organic, upscale look. Plus, it makes the wreath seem larger than the original base, with more visual weight.
- Make sure the stems are long enough to catch enough of the grapevine wreath to be secure, but not so long that they can be seen or don’t make the curve.
- If you have problems with some of the stems staying in place, you can discreetly attach them to the grapevine with floral wire and still be able to easily remove them later.
- If you need to add a wire or a pretty piece of ribbon for hanging, identify what makes the best top for your wreath and attach it before you begin.

Now that my front door is all ready to welcome spring, hopefully the weather is not far behind. I hope that movie quote is correct— “If you build it, they will come.”🌷

Love your wreath, Kate! It’s so beautiful and looks so nice on your door. I am a wreath gal, too, and love doing wreaths for each season. Wreaths are so welcoming for everyone who comes to visit — and for everyone who passes by. Have a great day!
