Come Sit By Me: Volume 95
Inside: Welcome to the weekend and our weekly catch-up, Come Sit By Me. I’m spilling the sweet tea on what’s happened this week, what’s inspiring me, and a few things that have caught my eye that I think you’ll love too!

Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.
Like pretty much everyone else, I was shocked and saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton this week. And I can’t stop thinking about why she was one of those rare people who seemed to be loved by just about everyone.
Obviously she was a talented songwriter and storyteller, but I think what really made her shine was so much more than that. She was funny, humble, generous, and never seemed to take herself too seriously. For someone who was that famous, she somehow never acted like she thought she was a big deal. And nobody made better jokes about Dolly than Dolly herself.
She was always very open about her faith, and I think she was such a good example of what living like Jesus is supposed to look like in everyday life. Not by preaching at people, but simply by the way she treated them. Whether she was talking to the most famous celebrity, a highly serious journalist, or some Joe Blow the rest of us would never know, they couldn’t help but like her. People seemed to leave her presence feeling happy and a little lighter. I think there’s a pretty good lesson in that for all of us as we go about our regular days.

And then there were the Dolly-isms. Nobody could make you laugh at something completely ridiculous and then turn around and say something incredibly profound quite like Dolly. I’ve always loved her quotes, and with them showing up everywhere I look this week, I just can’t stop reading them over and over. These are just a few of my favorites:
- “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.”
- “I’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb. And I also know that I’m not blonde.”
- “People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don’t know, I’m never there.”
- “I am a self-made woman, and I have the doctor bills to prove it.”
- “I’m very real where it counts, and that’s inside.”
- “They think I’m simpleminded because I seem to be happy. Why shouldn’t I be happy? I have everything I ever wanted and more. Maybe I am simpleminded. Maybe that’s the key: simple.”
- “It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world.”
- “I’m not going to limit myself just because people won’t accept the fact that I can do something else.”
- “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”
- “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
- “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”
- “You just try to be nice to everybody, ’cause you know everybody’s got a dream.”
- “I always just thought if you see somebody without a smile, give ’em yours!”
While I’m doing my best to pretend Dolly is still out there somewhere gracing the world with her infectious joy and positivity, I’m also doing my best to pretend it’s fall, as you might have noticed in the photo above.
As I write this, we’re still in a stretch of 100+ degree days here in Texas, and today I’m taking pictures of my fall decor for the home tour I’m sharing in September. With the fireplace going to look all fall-cozy. Never mind that it’s 103 degrees on the other side of the wall.

Pretty Pictures, Yummy Recipes, and Things I Just Want to Spend Money On.
This room is such a beautiful example of how fresh a classic green room can feel. I love the mix of patterned curtains, delicate wallpaper, botanical art, and warm antique wood for a look that feels collected but not stale or stodgy.

This green and brown plaid throw is perfect for adding a cozy layer to your home for fall. is perfect for adding a cozy layer to your home for fall. The plaid and warm colors would look so pretty draped over a sofa, chair, or the end of a bed.

These whole-grain banana yogurt muffins sound like such a delicious way to use up ripe bananas. They’d be perfect for breakfast with coffee or to keep on hand for an easy afternoon snack.

The colors and pretty traditional pattern on this floral throw pillow immediately caught my eye. It would be an easy one to mix in with what you already have on a sofa, chair, or bed.

This is such a good idea for filling a large blank wall. Using matching frames and lining the botanical prints up in neat rows makes a lot of artwork look surprisingly simple.

What have you seen this week that you’re obsessed with? Let all of us in on it in the comments!
