Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.
- August has officially arrived, but it looks so different than it used to as an empty nester. Although I loved all of that craziness when it was going on, it’s kind of a relief that school schedules, teacher assignments, clothes shopping, and school supplies are no longer on my radar. Even without all that, August looks to be a busy month. I’m looking forward to having two out of town visitors stay with me—first a dear friend and then my fun sister-in-law. Then I’ll end the month with a couple of getaways lined up back-to-back. One of them has me especially excited—escaping these triple-digit temperatures for somewhere with highs in the refreshing 60s and 70s sound like heaven about now!
- I’m celebrating the little wins this week. After Google’s latest update rearranged everything on search results pages (again), I’m happy to report my blog traffic has bounced back after they took the AI result off of the main page and returned the thumbnail pictures for us blogs. 🎉
- And my other pleasant surprise was my reel about paint-washing my cabinets took off on TikTok and its headed toward 100k views! The weird thing is the same exact video lives quietly on Instagram and Facebook, but clearly the TikTok algorithm had a soft spot for it. I’d rather focus on growing those other platforms and I barely use TikTok personally, but hey, I’ll take it!
- And finally, I couldn’t resist sharing this video of a remarkable 100-year-old woman in New York who credits her incredible health to her daily commitment to exercise and just renewed her driver’s license—because how else is she going to get herself to the gym for the next decade? My goal is to be just like her. 💪
