Come Sit By Me: Volume 103
Inside: Welcome to the weekend and our weekly catch-up, Come Sit By Me. I’m spilling the sweet tea on what’s happened this week, what’s inspiring me, and a few things that have caught my eye that I think you’ll love too!

Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.

At least Baylor gave me something beautiful to look at last weekend! We caught this gorgeous sunrise on our Sunday morning walk around campus, which was a much better show than what we’d seen on the football field the night before.

Saturday had all the makings of a perfect college football day! We finally had some beautiful fall temperatures for a full afternoon of tailgating, and a great crowd in the stands under the lights. Unfortunately, the game itself was a big stinker. We lost to our rival TCU, who wasn’t even supposed to be very good this year. We even had these dead horned frog Jell-O shots before the game…back when we had such high hopes. It took me forever to chew that nasty gummy frog, and it was all for nothing. At least tailgating is my favorite part!
But I almost didn’t make it to Waco for the game at all. I had barely left my house when a big red warning light in my car told me to stop driving. Thankfully, I was only about five minutes from the repair shop I use, and my sweet man came all the way back from Waco to pick me up so I could still make the game.
This repair shop was nice enough to give me their loaner car this week. And let’s just say it’s a far cry from the shiny new loaners the dealership usually puts me in. It’s a 2004 model, complete with torn seats, a few interesting smells, and a cassette player! No backup camera, and no way to connect or charge my phone. I have to really concentrate when backing up because I keep looking at the dashboard instead of the rearview mirror. Although I’m not even sure they’d notice if I added a new ding to the bumper by backing into something. 😂
But as dirty and worn as this 22 year old car is, it’s actually been a good experience for me. Kind of a reality check that so many things I’ve gotten used to having are really luxuries that not everyone has. And either I’m getting used to it, or it’s actually running better. The first time I drove it, the acceleration scared the crap out of me because it lurched forward everytime a gave it any gas, but now it seems pretty normal. Maybe it just hadn’t been driven in a while!

And how creative is this Halloween garland I spotted on someone’s porch? It looks like they made it with lots of faux fall ferns and branches mixed with large skulls, and I thought it was such a clever way to make Halloween decorations actually beautiful! I’m curious how they attached it, but I didn’t want to go so far as to inspect the back…I was already being creepy enough walking halfway up their sidewalk to take this picture.
Words to Get Through the Week.

Pretty Pictures, Yummy Recipes, and Things I Just Want to Spend Money On.
This 1920s Chesapeake Bay retreat is proof that a grand home can still feel warm and inviting. Antiques, blue-and-white porcelain, grasscloth, gingham, and plenty of layered patterns give this Colonial Revival home so much character, without feeling overly formal.

This affordable antique brass picture frame with a bow has such a sweet, vintage look. The delicate bow detail would add a little charm to a bedside table or bookcase, especially with a favorite family photo tucked inside.

This cozy slow-cooker Salisbury chicken combines tender chicken, onions, mushrooms, and a rich, savory gravy. With only about 15 minutes of prep time, it sounds like just the thing for an easy fall dinner, especially served over mashed potatoes.

This pressed-glass vase looks like something you might find in a favorite antique shop. The pretty shape and textured glass would be beautiful filled with fresh flowers or fall branches, but it has enough character to look just as lovely on its own.

This tour of an artist’s home is full of personality, with original artwork, collected furniture, and meaningful pieces gathered over the years. It’s the kind of home that feels like a reflection of the person who lives there, rather than something decorated to look perfect.
