Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.

I hope you had a great Memorial Day—I can’t believe summer is already here! I spent the long weekend in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington DC. The trip centered around visiting family and celebrating a graduation, but since I’ve never been to DC, we made an all-out touring adventure of it. We focused on DC, but flew in and out of Pittsburgh and drove through Pennsylvania, Maryland, and a tiny bit of West Virginia. I’d never been to that part of the country before, and everything was SO green and pretty this time of year. Even the rainy weather somehow made it prettier!
I think we attempted to fit about a weeks worth of sightseeing in DC into three days, where we power toured as much as possible. My Apple watch was super proud of me logging over 25,000 steps each of those days.

I took a ridiculous amount of the usual tourist photos in DC, and in these few you might think the rain looks miserable. But except for keeping up with the jackets and umbrella, the soft intermittent rain was actually kind of nice and probably a made everything a little less crowded.
We saw Arlington National Cemetery, the Capitol, Georgetown, the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the National Cathedral, several Smithsonian and other museums, the Supreme Court, and more memorial sites than I can even name looking back at my camera roll.

Arlington National Cemetery was probably my favorite part, especially impactful going on Memorial Day weekend. It’s hard to describe the feeling of seeing all of those rows of headstones stretching across the hills in person.

I also loved Georgetown—the old buildings, giant trees, Georgetown University, and all the charming streets and restaurants. All of it felt straight out of a movie.

The only thing I really wanted to do that we didn’t was tour the White House, which you could barely see because it’s so heavily barricaded now. Somehow a shooter thought they could reach it the day we were touring around there, which is pretty scary to think about now that we know in hindsight.
I’m so grateful to have gotten to spend time with family, and check off so many sights and experiences. And just when we thought the sights to see were over, we had some unexpected entertainment on the flight home when a passenger sitting by us was shouting profanities to no one and everyone, and had to be escorted off the plane before takeoff. Just one more memorable moment to add from this trip!

This entryway stopped me in my tracks with its soft blue ceiling, natural light, and those beautiful coastal touches. It’s such a lovely example of how a home can feel both refined and welcoming at the same time.

These glasses would be so pretty for summer entertaining. The woven detail gives them just the right coastal casual look to make porch sipping more special.

This little blue decorative box looks like the kind of piece that instantly makes a bookshelf, coffee table, or console feel layered and collected. I love finding affordable small accessories like this that add color, pattern, and personality.

This bridal brunch setup is simply stunning for summer with the soft blue hydrangeas, fresh lemons, and elegant silver tea service!
