Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.

- We went out to a fantastic dinner on Friday night for Valentine’s Day, making what we thought was the smart decision to beat the crowds on the actual holiday. We even went extra early and barely got a table… apparently we are not the only ones who celebrate V-Day adjacent.
- Actual Valentine’s Day was spent at a Baylor basketball game at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. It was rainy. It was another loss for the Bears. And technically the season is pretty much over. But we continue to show up for them anyway.
- We came home and worked on a puzzle after the game to finish Valentine’s night, which feels like something I would have made fun of 10 years ago. But even with the rain and the loss, it felt like the perfect cozy Valentine’s Day.
- I got my bone density test results back this week. As I suspected, I have osteopenia. What was more concerning is that I’m almost in the osteoporosis range in my back. So I guess I’ll be taking weight training a little more seriously. I’ve already started a calcium pill, even though I told myself I wouldn’t add one more supplement because I can’t even fit them all in my travel pill case anymore. (Yes, with the puzzle and early dinner I know how old I sound.)
- I was happy I made it to another one of the monthly dinners with the ladies from my new neighborhood, because I’ve always believed it’s important to know the people who live around you. There was a lot of talk about a beloved neighbor on my street who passed away suddenly last month (I learned she and her husband met at 14 and had been together ever since💗). I also found out my next door neighbor apparently died recently too—the ladies only knew because his family requested approval from the HOA to hold an estate sale. It’s strange what we know and don’t know about the people living right next to us!

If you love timeless architecture and beautifully layered interiors, this classic new build in Raleigh is such a treat to tour. It’s filled with gracious details, thoughtful finishes, and rooms that feel both elegant and welcoming, just the way a home should. I always enjoy seeing how traditional style can feel fresh while still honoring what has always worked so well.

This embroidered wisteria pillow gives graceful spring charm that pairs beautifully with classic blue and white or layered neutrals.

This slow cooker strawberry French toast casserole sounds like the sweetest way to welcome a spring brunch or holiday morning.

This boxed glass candle from Anthropologie is just as lovely on the outside as it is when lit. I truly love the beautiful packaging that makes it gift-ready without any extra effort. It’s the kind of little luxury that looks so pretty styled on a tray or guest room nightstand.

If you’ve ever felt stuck when decorating, this is reassuring and practical advice to give yourself to help you to move forward.

Hi Kate, most of us become osteopenic/osteoporotic after menopause. However, it is best to get calcium from food sources and not a pill. My former older doctor had also recommended it but this is not the new guidance. Taking too much calcium can lead to excess build up of calcium in your arteries & increase cardiovascular risk. Please do your own research online on the many leading medical websites. Just looking out for you!
Thanks for the advice Helen! I tried to calculate how much calcium I typically eat in a day, but even though I am eating a lot of calcium rich foods, I don’t reach the recommended amount that I found in my research. I will try and keep an eye on that in my blood tests to make sure I’m not overdoing it.❤️
