Come Sit By Me: Volume 24

Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.

- That duck in my driveway that I thought might be injured last week? Turns out she’s knocked up instead and made a nest up under this bush in my flower bed. I saw her tail when I went to turn on the faucet and she was so still I thought she might be dead. After some Google research, I now know that: 1) female mallards can be as still as a statue on a nest no matter how close you get to camouflage them from predators, 2) they tend to come back and lay in the same place every year, and 3) it takes about 28 days for the eggs to hatch. These little ducklings are going to have to walk a ways to get the neighborhood pond—I hope I don’t miss it!

- I can’t believe Easter is already here. I’d always wanted to attend my church’s Maundy Thursday service and I’m glad I finally did. The music was amazing and at the end everyone (and it’s a lot of people) filed out of the sanctuary in complete silence for communion and no one spoke until they got to the parking lot. The end of Lent also means the end of my giving up watching TV. It’s strange that it wasn’t all that hard, considering I was flipping it on by default almost every night before that. I don’t really want to go back to watching every day like I was, so hopefully I’ve broken that habit. I know it’s making me go to sleep earlier which is worth it right there!
- The only other highlight of the week if you can call it that, was I was responsible for getting my taxes done on my own for the very first time in my entire life. Because I had no experience with this (my ex always took care of it) I made extra sure to get everything into the CPA early so that I would have it done in plenty of time with no worries. Little good that did me because the tax guy was unreachable he was so busy, and I had to finally sign off late on tax day without answers to my questions. Adulting is stressful.😓

These vintage tobacco leaf lamps are absolutely stunning—classic, colorful, and full of personality! I love how they blend traditional style with some fun flair.

This outdoor pillow is so pretty. The block-printed design feels timeless, yet on trend at the same time.

If you love a good wedge salad, this recipe takes it to the next level. Crisp iceberg, smoky bacon, juicy tomatoes, and a creamy dressing—it’s the perfect starter for a dinner party or an easy al fresco lunch. Simple, fresh, and full of flavor!

This woven chip and dip bowl is a fun take on a classic serving piece for summer. The natural texture adds an easy, breezy feel and it would be ideal for get-togethers or a snack on the patio.

This shrimp charcuterie board is a fresh, coastal spin on the classic grazing board and would be perfect for warm-weather entertaining. With chilled shrimp, flavorful dips, and all the tasty extras, it’s both elegant and easy to assemble.

What a cute duck making her home under a bush in your flower bed! It will be interesting to watch her and her little ducklings! She knew how safe she would be at your house, Kate!
Great recipes, too.
Enjoy your Easter.
I’m not sure how safe she is but now I kind of feel responsible for her. I hope you have a wonderful Easter my friend!
