Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.

- One day this week while driving home from the plant nursery, I found myself compelled to stop in the middle of the road and snap this picture from my car, feeling fortunate no one was behind me so I could take a pause to appreciate it. This scene of a longhorn and her calf resting in a field of fresh green grass and enjoying a quiet afternoon was just the picture of early summer in Texas.
- I know most people spend June complaining about the heat and humidity and counting down until fall, but summer has always been my very favorite season (and I’d much rather be hot than cold, so that probably helps). I love the long evenings and living in shorts and flip flops. I love that everything green is at its peak, flowers are blooming everywhere, and the feeling that life is just more “alive”.

- The summer does make it more challenging figuring out when to take our daily walks, dodging either heat or rain. Last Sunday even though we strategically planned according to the weather radar, about halfway through a four mile walk the skies opened up and absolutely drenched us down to the underwear, and my shoes took two full days to dry out. I think the only reason I don’t have mascara running all down my face in this photo is because of the number of times I had to wipe my eyes trying to see through the rain.
- You can probably tell it was a pretty routine week around here when all I’ve talked about so far is the weather.😂 So for lack of life happenings to report, I thought I’d share a few random things I learned much later than probably most people. Tell me I’m not the only one who didn’t know at least one of these:
Gas Gauge Arrow: There’s a little arrow on your gas gauge that points to the side of the car where the gas tank is located.
Tape Measure Trick: Most measuring tapes have the width of the case printed on the side, so if you’re measuring something and can’t get the case out of way, you can just add that number to your measurement.
Pot Handle Hole: That hole in the handle of pots isn’t just for hanging. It was also designed to hold your stirring spoon while you’re cooking.
Ceiling Fan Direction: Ceiling fans should spin counterclockwise in the summer to create a cooling breeze and clockwise in the winter to help circulate warm air.
Words to Get Through the Week.
