Easy step-by-step bow tie napkin tutorial.
To make this cute bow all you’ll need is:
- A square napkin
- A napkin ring or piece of ribbon made into a circle
Here’s how to make a super simple napkin bow in a couple of different sizes:
Large bow napkin.
1. Lay the entire napkin out flat.
2. Fold two opposite outside edges to the center. Fold that rectangle in half lengthwise. Then fold it one more time to make the napkin small enough to fit through the ribbon or napkin ring.
3. Slide the folded napkin through the loop of ribbon or napkin ring to the center of the napkin.
4. Fan out the sides into a bow shape and pinch/adjust creases in the bow until it resembles a bow tie.
Smaller bow napkin.
These blue velvet napkins were too large and floppy to make a nice bow, so I made a bow napkin in a smaller version.
1. Fold napkins into quarters to make a smaller square. (After that, you’ll follow the same steps as above, folding the sides into the center).
2. Fold that rectangle in half vertically and fold again vertically.
3. Slide the napkin through the ribbon loop, and then fan into a bow shape and crease the center with your fingers until it looks like a bow.
These bow napkins can be made with any kind of cloth napkins, or even paper napkins. The heavier and stiffer napkins make nice large bows, and napkin fabric without much body will look better with the smaller bow option.
And there are so many potential creative ways to use these napkin bows—they look adorable for everything from a formal dinner party to a little girl’s birthday party!
I used black no wrinkle fabric napkins for this black and gold color theme New Year’s Eve table:
I cut a small piece of blingy rhinestone ribbon and hot glued the ends into a loop to make my bowtie centers:
It added the most adorable black tie touch to this New Year’s Eve themed table in just a few minutes!
