If you’re looking for a fancy way to toast Fat Tuesday, this Bananas Foster King Cake martini may be your new signature drink.
Last year in New Orleans, I discovered this most delicious drink at The Country Club, which I mostly ordered because of the name. It felt like someone had taken two of the city’s most iconic desserts and said, “Why not put them in a glass?”
After the first sip, I knew I’d have to figure out a way to recreate this Bananas Foster King Cake martini at home. It was creamy and indulgent, with just enough kick. It felt like it belonged on a French Quarter menu. Fat Tuesday festive without looking and tasting like food coloring.
Of course, when I got home and tried to recreate it, I learned very quickly that “caramelized banana infused vodka” is not something you just grab at the store.
So instead of trying to copy the restaurant’s exact recipe, my Mardi Gras martini recipe focuses on recreating the flavors—the warm banana, buttery caramel, and that sweet cinnamon-sugar king cake taste, but in a way that’s realistic to make at home.
What Is a Bananas Foster King Cake Martini?

It’s a mashup of these two classic New Orleans desserts turned into a Mardi Gras martini recipe. Instead of flaming bananas or baking a cake, you get those same cozy flavors—banana, caramel, and cinnamon sugar, shaken into one smooth, creamy cocktail.
Bananas Foster King Cake Martini Recipe (Easy Mardi Gras Martini).
Ingredients (Serves 1):

For the martini:
- 1¾–2 oz vodka
- 1 oz banana liqueur
- 1 oz pourable caramel ice cream topping
- 1½ oz half-and-half
For the rim:
- Caramel syrup
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ¾–1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Ingredient Notes:
Banana liqueur:
Giffard Banane du Brésil or Bols Banana Liqueur both work well here and taste smoother than some of the brighter yellow banana liqueurs. If your store only carries something like DeKuyper banana liqueur, use it—just measure carefully since it tends to taste more like banana candy.
Caramel topping:
Use a pourable caramel ice cream topping, like the kind you’d drizzle over sundaes (Ghirardelli or Smucker’s both work). Avoid very thick jarred caramel meant for dipping apples.
Instructions:

1. Mix the cinnamon and sugar on a small plate.
2. Pour a small amount of caramel syrup onto a separate plate. Lightly dip the rim of a coupe glass into the caramel, then dip it into the cinnamon sugar. Set aside.

3. Add a generous handful of ice to a cocktail shaker. Add vodka, banana liqueur, caramel, and half-and-half.
4. Shake for 15–20 seconds until very cold.
Tip: Caramel is thicker than the other ingredients, so shake a little longer than usual to fully incorporate it.
5. Strain into the prepared glass. (It should pour smoothly almost like whole milk, not thick like eggnog.)
6. Taste. If it feels stronger than you’d like, add a small splash of half-and-half, shake briefly again, and strain.

Ingredients
For the martini:
- 1¾-2 oz vodka
- 1 oz banana liqueur
- 1 oz pourable caramel ice cream topping
- 1½ oz half-and-half
For the rim:
- caramel syrup for dipping
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ¾-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Mix the cinnamon and sugar on a small plate.
- Pour a small amount of caramel syrup onto a separate plate. Dip the rim of a coupe glass into the caramel, then dip it into the cinnamon sugar. Set aside.
- Add a generous handful of ice to a cocktail shaker.
- Add vodka, banana liqueur, caramel topping, and half-and-half.
- Shake for 15–20 seconds, until very cold. (Caramel is thicker than the other ingredients, so shake a little longer than usual to fully incorporate it.)
- Strain into the prepared glass. The drink should pour smoothly, almost like whole milk.
- Taste. If it feels stronger than you’d like, add a small splash (about ¼ oz) more half-and-half, shake briefly again, and strain.
Notes
- Use a pourable caramel ice cream topping rather than thick jarred caramel for best texture.
- If possible, choose a smoother banana liqueur like Giffard Banane du Brésil or Bols Banana Liqueur. Brighter yellow banana liqueurs tend to be sweeter and more candy-like.
- This cocktail contains dairy and is best shaken fresh. You can pre-measure the vodka, banana liqueur, and caramel ahead of time and refrigerate, then add half-and-half and shake just before serving.
FAQ: Bananas Foster King Cake Martini
Can I use heavy cream instead of half-and-half?
You can, but it will be thicker and richer. Half-and-half keeps the texture smooth and closer to the inspiration martini from the restaurant and less like eggnog.
Can I make this without banana liqueur?
The restaurant menu listed banana-infused vodka, which isn’t practical for most of us to make. Banana liqueur is the easiest way to recreate that flavor.
Can I make this ahead of time?
Because this cocktail contains dairy, it’s best shaken fresh so it stays smooth and properly chilled. You can measure the vodka, banana liqueur, and caramel ahead of time and refrigerate, then add the half-and-half and shake with ice just before serving.
