Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.

- Last weekend we made a quick trip to Waco—it had been awhile now that we’re in that lull between basketball and football season. Every trip there it seems like I get to eat at another great new place to me, and I can’t believe I haven’t run out of restaurants yet. This trip’s winner was Helberg Barbecue, which may have been the best barbecue I’ve ever put in my mouth. And that’s saying a lot considering I live in Texas.
- We spent Saturday night at an outdoor patio bar listening to a really good Tom Petty cover band from Austin. So many hits… I think my favorites are “American Girl“, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance“, and “Don’t Do Me Like That“. They had old music videos of the songs on the screen behind the stage, and even though I remembered them from back in the day, I was mesmerized by how strange they were.

- Father’s Day always makes me think about my dad. I was a daddy’s girl to the core so of course I thought he hung the moon—but everyone else seemed to think so too. He was a kind, patient man who was always serving others, and the very definition of a Southern gentleman. The older I get, the more I realize what a gift it was to have that example growing up.

- Well, it’s only been two years since I moved into my villa and I finally got around to putting wallpaper in the back of my entertainment center. That kind of sums up how things go around here—my brain comes up with more ideas for things to do than I ever have time for. But I’m really pleased with the result, and I’ll be sharing it in Monday’s post.

This palm tree print download with its soft blues and greens, combined with the simple coastal-style motif, gives a fresh, cheery feel that works beautifully with classic decor, blue-and-white accents, and relaxed summer style.

These wedge salad skewers are such a clever twist on a classic salad. They’re easy to serve, perfect for entertaining, and bring all the flavors of a traditional wedge salad in a fun, bite-sized appetizer.

And how cute are these placemats with their scalloped shape and linen texture?

Watermelon balls are such a fun way to serve fresh fruit, and I love this serving idea of presenting them on a circle of watermelon! Whether you’re hosting a summer brunch, backyard cookout, or Fourth gathering, they’re sure to be a hit on any warm-weather table.
