Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.
- I’m looking forward to a trip down to Waco this weekend for Baylor Homecoming. We’ve got a full schedule with the bonfire, parade, football game, and even a basketball game on Friday. The overlap right now between football and basketball season sure makes it hard to fit all the fun things in this month!

- I’ve spent most of this week surrounded by storage bins, ribbon scraps, glitter, and general Christmas decorating debris. As I was pulling together photos of my old Christmas mantels for Monday’s post, I realized just how creative I’ve had to get since starting the blog to make my decorations look different every Christmas without buying everything new. And that’s exactly why it takes me days to decorate! I spend an embarrassing amount of time moving things around and trying different combinations. And my weirdo self actually enjoys it.🤓
- This year I’m aiming for a classic Southern Christmas look, with lots of magnolia greenery, traditional red, and a little blue and white planned for the dining room. The family room tree is the closest thing I have to finished, so that’s your little sneak peek above. I’m just glad you can’t see the rest of the room in this picture!
Words to Get Through the Week.

Pretty Pictures, Yummy Recipes, and Things I Just Want to Spend Money On.
This beautiful Montgomery home is dressed for Christmas in classic Colonial Williamsburg style, with fresh fruit, pinecones, greenery, blue ribbon, and treasured blue-and-white porcelain. Every room feels gracious, collected, and wonderfully welcoming.

This hand-painted chinoiserie tray combines classic blue and white with a pretty scalloped edge and just a touch of gold. It would be lovely holding coffee and sweets, serving holiday cocktails, or simply sitting on an ottoman.

These Cranberry Brie bites look festive enough for a holiday gathering but require only three ingredients and about 15 minutes. I especially love that they can be assembled ahead and frozen, ready to bake whenever company is coming.

This blue-and-white botanical ornament would look beautiful tucked among greenery, gold ribbon, and favorite ornaments collected over the years. It’s a pretty way to bring a little blue and white to the Christmas tree while keeping things traditional.

This Christmas home tour has a Ralph Lauren-inspired look with rich tartans, velvet ribbon, fresh greenery, blue-and-white porcelain, and ornaments collected over the years. It’s full of traditional Christmas decorating ideas with just the right amount of nostalgia.
