30 Fun Christmas Dinner Questions to Keep Them at the Table Talking
Inside: Get everyone talking this holiday season with 30 fun and entertaining Christmas dinner questions perfect for creating memories with the entire family!
There’s nothing better than gathering around the dinner table with the entire family during the holiday season. And Christmas dinner is sometimes one of the only times we can get everyone together, sitting in one place with no distractions.
In my family, we have our big holiday dinner on Christmas Eve. And I always hated that once the food was gone everyone (mostly the men and kids) tended to jump up from the table and that interaction time came to a screeching halt. But I’ve found having an after-dinner table activity can keep the laughs and discussions flowing.
That’s why I’ve put together a list of fun, light-hearted questions to make sure nobody’s walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas (what movie anyone?). I’ve also created a free download in a printable pdf format so you can have these easily ready to go.
Most of these Christmas conversation starters are good for any age range, a few are more geared toward the adults, but they’re all a great way to create lasting memories with your loved ones or friends. And they’re not Christmas specific, so you can use them not only for holiday dinners, but for Thanksgiving dinner or other dinner parties to create some entertaining interaction!
30 Questions to Keep the Conversation Going Around the Dinner Table.
My favorite thing about these Christmas dinner conversation starters is they’re the easiest way to learn little factoids about the whole family I would have never known.
And even though these are not meant to be especially deep or thought-provoking, the memorable moments they bring are just as special as more serious, meaningful conversations. And they’ve been know to lead to some pretty interesting conversations and lively discussions.
I’ve tried to focus on lighthearted and fun questions, and avoided ones that require deep (read boring) thought, controversial topics, or ones that would invite your relatives or friends to insult each other. 😲

Tips for Using Dinner Conversation Starter Questions.
I’ve had so many laughs from asking questions like this and some of the answers have been so interesting and surprising! Here are some suggestions on different ways to ask the questions:
- Make Conversation Cards. Print out the free download and cut the questions into strips.
- Have someone verbally ask the questions. Print the list for them or have them handy on a phone.
- Put the question strips in a bowl to randomly draw from.
- Put them under each plate for assigned questions, or just luck of the draw if you don’t have assigned seating.
- Read out a question and go around the table and let everyone give their answer to it.
- Make your own list of questions for a theme dinner. I’ve done Christmas movie trivia when we were favorite Christmas movie characters, and 70’s trivia questions when we had a seventies theme.

Dinner questions are a favorite Christmas tradition of mine, although now that we’ve discovered what a great time we have staying at the table, we sometimes opt for board games instead. But the best thing about the list of questions is there’s no prep or planning required! These would also be a great way to keep every family member engaged on Christmas day with a little hot chocolate around the Christmas tree.
I hope this list helps keep your family at the dining table longer or avoids that awkward silence when you’re hosting a dinner party. Let us know in the comments if you use any of these and how it went. Enjoy your special dinner and Merry Christmas!
