Viral snow globe cocktails have been the darling drink of the season on social media since last Christmas. And with good reason.
- The presentation wows. A simple rosemary sprig looks like an adorable mini Christmas tree growing in the whimsical winter wonderland of a snow globe.🎄
- It keeps your drink cold in the most fun way.
- It’s so simple anyone can do it.
- There are endless options for alcohol as long as it’s light colored and clear—vodka, gin, champagne, you name it!
What You’ll Need to Make a Snow Globe Drink.
- Sprig of rosemary
- A freezer-safe drink glass
- Water
- Kitchen twine
- Scotch tape
- 1-2 ounces vodka
- 3 to 6 ounces club soda
- Lime juice
- Fresh cranberries (optional)
- Edible glitter (optional)
How to Prepare a Snow Globe Cocktail.
Step 1: Fill the glass with about one and a half inches of cold water.
Step 2: Trim the rosemary sprig to fit down inside the glass (it looks best if it’s below the drink surface and it won’t be awkard to drink the cocktail after the ice floats to the top).
Step 3: Most of the time the rosemary won’t stand up by itself unless you have a good bushy piece, so tie a piece of kitchen twine long enough to reach outside of the glass on both sides around the point before putting it in.
Then place the sprig in the center of the bottom of the glass with the rosemary leaves slanted down and the point up (making it look like a Christmas tree). Let the twine hang over the edges on each side of the glass, and tape it in place on the outside.
With optional cranberries: Add a few cranberries to the water before freezing to make a festive garnish when they float to the top of the drink as the ice melts!
Step 4: Place the glass in the freezer making sure the water is level. Freeze for one or two hours or until fully frozen.
Step 4: Remove the frozen glass from the freezer and gently remove the tape and string, taking care not to snap off your rosemary tree.
Sprinkle in some edible glitter for an added magical snow globe effect, if desired.
Then add your cocktail of choice—for this recipe I’m adding a vodka soda with splash of fresh lime juice. Serve immediately.
SH&H Tip: Pour in the cocktail right when you’re ready to drink. After about 10-15 minutes the ice will melt enough to pop up from the bottom and will start floating on top of the cocktail like a little iceberg with a tree. The ice will last slightly longer if the liquids you pour in are already cold.
Alcohol Options for a Snow Globe Cocktail.
I made a vodka soda with lime, but there are so many ways you can make this drink your own! Here are a few other clear or light colored alcohol options to try:
- Gin and tonic
- Prosecco or Champagne
- White rum
- A mocktail with sparkling water, ginger ale, tonic water, or a non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
