Come Sit By Me: Volume 96
Inside: Welcome to the weekend and our weekly catch-up, Come Sit By Me. I’m spilling the sweet tea on what’s happened this week, what’s inspiring me, and a few things that have caught my eye that I think you’ll love too!

Welcome to “Come Sit By Me”! It’s our chance to catch up on the little things I’d share with you this week if we could chat on the porch over coffee (or wine depending on the time of day).
Life Lately in a Nutshell.
- Happy September! I’m so excited that college football is back. Baylor plays Auburn Saturday, so I’ll be cheering on the Bears this weekend.

- We celebrated two friends turning 60 this week and decided to surprise them with a “progressive dinner” to make it more special than one of our regular dinners out. I should have known we wouldn’t be great at the deception required. The friend whose birthday is actually this month had picked Chuy’s, but was told that wasn’t special enough and that we were going to a different casual Mexican restaurant because it was my favorite. Not knowing about that fib, I innocently announced when we sat down that I’d only been there once. She’d also been told to dress a little nicer, which made absolutely no sense for where we were supposedly going. After a drink and appetizer there, we gave them a scavenger hunt-type clue they had to solve to figure out where we were headed for dinner, then another clue sent us to Chuy’s for her favorite tres leches cake for dessert. She later said she’d been greatly confused by our choices, but somehow despite our terrible lying skills, they were both completely surprised and said they felt so loved. Mission accomplished. It was such a fun night!
- In less fun happenings, this has also been a week of constant troubleshooting. My car wouldn’t go into gear until I turned it off and restarted it. The Apple TV wouldn’t come on until I figured out how to reset it. I wasted an hour or two fighting with a video editing app. And I still haven’t solved why I’m suddenly not getting verification codes to my main email account. For all the technology that’s supposed to make life easier, it sure can waste a lot of time when it doesn’t work right.

- Even Bijoux joined in the unexpected annoyances. Her first grooming appointment went fine (probably because she had no idea what was about to happen). She was wise to what was going on this time because when I picked her up, I was charged an extra $10 because she’d been “uncooperative.” So with the tip, her haircut costs more than mine. Bad Bijoux. Good thing she’s cute.
Words to Get Through the Week.

Pretty Pictures, Yummy Recipes, and Things I Just Want to Spend Money On.
These fall porch decorating ideas inspired by historic Southern homes are giving me all kinds of inspiration. Colorful pumpkins, mums, and other natural touches look especially pretty piled onto the porches of these gorgeous old homes.

This small scalloped woven rattan tray is such a cute way to corral a few things on a coffee table, nightstand, or bathroom counter. The scalloped edge makes it a little more special than a basic woven tray.

I was probably sold on the name alone, but this old-fashioned Apple Dapple Cake sounds so good for fall. It’s filled with apples and warm spices and topped with a homemade caramel glaze. How can something called Apple Dapple Cake not be delicious?

This set of three vintage-style candlestick holders has a great aged brass finish that looks much more expensive than it is. The three different heights make them perfect for grouping on a mantel or using down the center of a table for fall.

My friend Rhoda shared some simple and elegant fall decorating ideas and they’re a good reminder that you don’t have to go overboard decorating for fall. Sometimes a little seasonal color and a few natural touches are all you need.

What have you seen this week that you’re obsessed with? Let all of us in on it in the comments!
Live this weekend to the fullest,💗

Kate, such a sweet picture of your precious little dog, Bijoux! I just love your little dog! Kate, you just have to pay the extra $10 for her being uncooperative! We always had to pay extra for our little dog, too, as our Princess did not like to have her face touched by our groomer. Have a great week — and love your precious little Bijoux! Don’t tell her she’s “bad”! That makes her feel bad! Ha! Ha!
I’ve never thought about a progressive dinner at restaurants! I love that idea. Your little baby is adorable! It’s hard to see that sweet face being uncooperative!😂
